Get the BIOS for an alarm feature that will
power on the computer.
Milt said:Rock,
You're quite right. But I added my post to this thread because while
Franks
concern and mine are a little different, the same solution will apply to
both
of us. And while it's not a Windows "problem", I think that there may be a
solution using Windows.
I have looked and my BIOS does not offer any way to wake the machine on
schedule.
Milt said:Thanks for the comment Rock,
I won't dispute what you're saying, but I do know that entires in the
Windows Task Scheduler, such as my Norton Antivirus scheduled scan, do
wake
the computer.
So will a .bat file such as:
REM wakeup.bat
REM 01/20/2007
REM simple program to do work to wake up the computer
echo started at date >> wakeup.log
But that's a clumsy way of doing it. I'm looking for a cleaner, simpler
way.

Now I understand why you thought my question was "dumb". No, the computer
is
ON, but the hard drive is shut down. (". I used to have my Power
Options Properties set to "Turn Off Hard Drive After 20 Minutes Of
Inactivity".)
Here's what i do: If you are using WindowsXP instead of turning off yourFrank Martin said:I want it to come on about 30min before I get

Does that "power on from LAN" option have anything to do with the OS, or isRock said:I have my secretary do it. If that options not available to you then
check in the BIOS to see if it has that capability. It is not an XP OS
issue, how could it be since the computer isn't running so the OS isn't.
