i have a windows 2000 server which i switch off before leaving my office. i
have noticed that more often than not it has switched its self back on in
the morning when i come back in. someone has told me that it is performing
system checks or something during the night and not turning its self off
afterwards.

is it imperitive that it performs these checks? if so how do i schedule it
so that this happens during the day

if not then how do i stop it from switching its self back on?

I think You have to simply switch off Wake On Lan feature in Your
computer's BIOS configuration.
