How do I stop receiving duplicate e-mail messages?

I receive some duplicate e-mail messages. Is there something in the Outlook
configuration that would cause this? It only happens in a couple of my
folders.
 
Do you have some "rules" set up which sorts and filters some emails
automatically to different folders? If so then certain emails may be affected
by two or more rules which will place the same email into the respective
number of folders.

E.G Mail from "John Smith" to go into "Friends" folder; mail through "AOL"
account to go to "AOL" folder; if Jon Smith sends email to your AOL account
then the email will copy to both folders.

Since mail is downloaded into only into Inbox, if you're getting duplicates
in other folders it's because you have rules that are putting them there.
Fix your rules. The most common mistake is not including the "stop
processing more rules" action.
