My send and receive settings for my POP3 account change without warning or
reason. This happens two or three times a day. In particular the check box
for leaving a copy on the server becomes unticked and the connection radial
changes from LAN to a dial up conection. Is this a Microsoft bug? or is
another application interferring?

I have had a similar problem on the microsoft wireless network manager. The
WEP key is repeatedly lost and replaced with a shorter key, which obviously
fails to connect. some times I have to retype the key and reboot several
times before I can get it to stick?

Has any one had similar problems?

First, make sure you are not scanning your mail with an antivirus package.
You may have to uninstall that program and reinstall without the mail
scanning option. Next, delete the file {yourprofile}.srs (where
"{yourprofile}" is, of course, your mail profile name) in the (hidden)
folder %AppData%\Microsoft\Outlook. Start Outlook and let it recreate the
srs file. You may have to reset your send/receive settings.
