How do I stop my cursor freezing when scrolling through a text?

Sometimes, when I open a file on MS Word and try to scroll up or down, the
cursor gets stuck at a point and wouldn't move for minutes. This wastes a
lot of time when either reading or updating a file.

Are graphics, or something similar scrolling into view when this happens?

You might try updating your graphics card driver.
