how do I stop line counting a blankline between paragraphs?

when setting up a line count for a document it included blank lines, how do i
stop this happening? its a long document, so i don't want to do them all
individually!

The only way is not to _type_ blank lines. Instead, set the "Space
After" value of the paragraph style of your body text to 12 pt (or
whatever the size of the font is) so each time you press enter _once_
at the end of a paragraph, it will automatically add the extra space.
That space won't be numbered.

Assuming you're in Word2003, display the Styles & Formatting pane
(with the "AA" icon at the far left of the main toolbar, or by
choosing "More" at the bottom of the Styles dropdown window), right-
click on the name of the style you want to alter, choose Modify, then
under the Format button at the lower left choose Paragraph, then near
the bottom in "Space After" enter a number of points. (The arrows move
in jumps of 6 pt (or half the leading?), but you can type the value of
your choosing.)

As you OK your way out, all the paragraphs with that style will show
the newly chosen Space After.
