First eliminate any scumware.
See
Dealing with Unwanted Spyware, Parasites, Toolbars and Search Engines
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each need to be updated before every use, even when just
downloaded. There's also a lot more to do than just those two programs.

If trying everything at that site does not fix the problem please post back
in the same thread.

Hi Frank

My browser will now not even allow me to access the Lavasoft site, it keeps telling me the page cannot be displayed

I did eventually manage to download the application, however, my system kept switching it off, before it had time to complete any scans

I've followed your initial steps for internet options, but i'm now stuck

Regards

Andrew.

Hi,

IE will not allow me to access the web page, it just keeps shutting my browser down as soon as i try and do anything connected with spyware or adware.

Would it be possible for you to email me the programme. As soon as i put cwshredder into google the browser just closes again.

Why are you putting it into Google? I gave a link to download it.
I have mailed you a zipped copy.

Hi guys,
The best way to destroy such killers is to follow the logical
approach:

Use a tool like regmon (to monitor who writes to registry entries).
http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/source/regmon.shtml

Set the filter (in the options settings) to search for "smartsearch"

This will give you the name of the program that keeps trying to update
the registry keys with the smartsearch.ws entries. Identify the .exe
program from the regmon results, and kill the .exe program from the
"Task Manager". Then go ahead and manually delete this .exe file (it
will generally be a hidden file). Now manually delete the entries in
the registry.......... and boy .... you're the winner !!!!!

Vishy
(In case the above fails (highly unlikely), feel free to contact me.

Hi volks,

you can do this:

1. press Strg+Alt+Del, search for "iexplorer.exe" and kill this
prozess.

2. download http://216.180.233.153/~merijn/files/CWShredder.exe and
execute it.

3. now, download this
http://216.180.233.153/~merijn/files/HijackThis.exe start it and make
a tick by C:\xxxxx\iexplorer.exe, then fix it.
