How do I stop Exporer showing the Filename&Tasks window/panel?

It is superfluous data that just gets in the way of what I really wanted to
be able to see when I open a folder outside of Windows Explorer! This
restricts the number of usable windows I can have open at the same time!

If you are referring to the left pane showing common tasks, here's how to
disable it.

Tools > Folder Options > and check "Use Windows Classic Folders".
