how do I stop autoshapes from redrawing themselves repeatedly?

In Powerpoint I frequently come across a situation in which autoshapes that I
place on a page repeatedly redraw themselves on the screen. This makes the
page look like you are blinking repeatedly. In slideshow mode, everything is
fine but when you are trying to work on the slide you can't get sufficient
access to the slide to make any changes.

Criteria,

Sounds like you need to update your graphics card drivers.

As it should only blink once... and not repeatedly

What other applications are you running? This is a computer resources issue
and common on older/less robust graphic cards or when computer resources are
low. My computers are "cutting edge" and running an application like
MusicMatch (which turns out to be very resource intensive when streaming
music) in the background can cause the repeated redrawing of the page on
image heavy slides, especially those with lots of semi-transparent images.

First check what other applications are running in the background. Then
check graphics card drivers.
