I use the XP search function a lot. And my question is
how I do Specify a default search folder? When I click
on start\search the default search location is 'all local
drives'. My question is how do I change it so that the
startup or default search location is one particular
drive?

I know this. I want to specify a default drive, so I
don't have to use the drop down box to select the drive I
want. I only need to search for things on one drive, so
I don't want to have to specify it everytime.

Ok I know exactly what you need. I found this:
"If you need to search regularly for similar items, you
can save a search by entering the criteria and running
the search as usual. Then select Save Search from the
File Menu and give your search a descriptive name. Next
time you want to run the search, double-click the saved
search file(you could even add a shortcut on the
desktop). You can then adjust the criteria, if necessary,
and click the Search button to start the search anew."
Try it, it should solve your problem. Good luck!

Yes this would be handy it could save about .001 of a
second, which over a year could add up to .5 of a second,
why havnt microsoft spent millions developing this system
further ?

Because a lot of users don't know a drive from a donut and just want to find
a document.

And a friendly tip... Please avoid posting the same message separately
to different newsgroups, i.e. please do not multi-post. If your posting is
relevant in more than one newsgroup, please cross-post instead
(restraint is advised).

By cross-posting:
- The news software is able to transfer a single copy
- Readers of multiple groups won't have to read your posting many times over
- Answers are threaded together cohesively, posters don't have to repeat
- Potential follow-ups will not be fragmented all over the different newsgroups
- You won't have to search all of the newsgroups to read any replies you may
receive
