How do I share everything?

My machines are all in the same Workgroup.
The machines run Windows 98 Second Edition (both with and
without usernames), Windows XP Professional SP1, and
Windows XP Professional SP2.

How do I share everything in my Windows XP Professional SP2
system? (I was also unable to figure out how to do it for SP1,
so the answer might work for SP1 also.) I solution that
just lets the Windows XP Professional machines share would
be useful even though it is not complete.

I can share each partition, but the Program Files tree and
some others don't want to share. I was able to share most
of the subtrees, but then they each show up in the list;
I just want one shareable resource for each partition, not
hundreds.

Well, you can't share *everything,* as WinXP's security model simply
doesn't permit it. And SP2 further tightened WinXP's security, although
it's still not perfect.

Correct. This is by design. Protected systems files and folders cannot
be shared; this was a major security hole in earlier versions of Windows.

So, create "one shareable resource;" just don't try to include
protected systems folders.

You need to specify in your computers to turn on files sharing id it is
not there your network config. Then besides just the one community share
folder, you can specify other folders each has access too. Now, for a
windows computer that is on your network that are running any for of
Windows 98, you need to go to your main win XP computer that you
originally installed the router software on, you need to make a file (put
on floppy or CD) and install it on the Win 98 computer. This will tell
the win 98 computer the workgroup info.

But to share all of the folders on the computers I wouldn't try. Better
to just manually put stuff into the regular shared folder for the other
computers to access. I don't know how the real office networks are
configed that share programs and files & lists & things instantly though.
