How do I set up the remote access?

My mother has her first PC (wireless Satellite M35-S456 Notebook) but
no nothing about windows or computing (but she is taking classes and I
help out).

When she is having trouble It would be nice to see her laptop from my
PC and operate it. I have heard its possible to access my mom's laptop
from my house but I don't want anyone else to get into my mom's
laptop, just me. She has XP home and I have XP pro is this ok?

I've read the help section of windows concerning this but I could use
some visual instructions too (any websites?).

I found both of these with a google search for:
xp remote assistance instructions

Of course if either of you have a firewall, it will
complicate things.
