Ask once and be patient.

What is your version of Outlook and what exactly do you see?

Sorry, first time using this, must have clicked too many times. I am using
Microsoft Office Outlook 2003. When I click on icon - it comes up Inbox -
microsoft office. then a little square pops up asking"Outlook is not
currently your default program for e-mail, etc." I click "yes" and then
nothing happens. thanks for your patience.

You said you see the Inbox. Then you said "nothing happens". Does Outlook
close? Do you still see the Inbox? If the latterm, what's in the
Navigation Pane?

Outlook Remains Open, I still see inbox. I am not sure what line is the
navigation pane. The usual headings are there - file, edit, view etc.
the next line. New is ok, print, reply, forward are light or "off",
send/receive are ok.
Underneath the Inbox Line is Arranged by: Date Newest on top, underneath
that is "there are no items". then the right side of the screen is empty. I
am sorry, but i am a new user and have not been trained on this program. I am
learning as I go. I appreciate your suggestions.

The Navigation Pane is aong the left side of your Inbox. It contains a
listing of your folders. At the bottom of that left-hand panel should be
several buttons, one of which should say "Contacts" when you hover your
mouse over it. What happens when you click it?

So far, everything sounds normal. You appear to be looking at an empty
Inbox.
