When I send and or receive e-mails Outlook puts them in the inbox or outbox.
I have to click these to receive and send mail. I want outlook to do it
automatically. When I go into Options, Mail set up, there is a check next to
the box that says send e-mail when connected. Does this have something to do
with it?

Yup, check that and as soon as you hit send it automatically sends it. But,
if your on a dialup service like aol this will eventually drive you nuts.

the box is already checked and to send and receive e-mails I have to click on
inbox or outbox. Can you help me?

You set the polling interval, ie check for mail every x mins. Do NOT set for
less than 10 mins

Click Tools>Options>Mail Setup>Send/Receive and define a send/receive
interval. Choose something on the order of ten minutes.
