How do I set shadow copies of shared folders?

I just accidentally deleted a file folder and discovered that I need to
"enable Shadow Copies of Shared Folders on the file server". Can someone tell
me how I do this? I'm using Windows XP professional 2000.

If you are indeed talking about enabling Shadow copies on a Win2k3 server,
then see kb 832217, as this tells you how to enable it from a PC running
WinXP or Win2k, but if you are using Win2k or WinXP as a file server OS,
then that's one of the drawbacks of using a desktop OS as a Server OS, it
will be missing key functions found in server OS' - in other words, XP/2k
Pro doesn't have the ability.

I'm not a techie - just a home worker with this need to enable retrieval of
lost files. Can you explain in layman's terms? I'm not running off a server -
just my desktop computer. I run a creative services business and know zip
about programming. The Windows Help file just says I have to enable this
feature, but doesn't tell me how - only to notify my system administrator. I
guess that would be me. What is kb 832217 and where do I find it? Is there
info on doing this task that a person like me can handle?
Thanks.
