I don't know how that happened. Nevertheless, I want to know how to separate
the Contact data file and the Calendar data file from the other Outlook data
(*.pst) files. I have an offsite backup that charges by the amount of data
one backs up. I am not interested in preserving, Inbox, Sent Items, Deleted
Items, etc. I am only interested in preserving my Contact Data and my
Calendar data. I am using Office 2003 with XP Pro SP2. Danke.

Hi AusJohn,
so you want open a backup file, but without mails a.s.o.
Mmmh, so you have no chance
Open your Outlook
FILE | OPEN | DATAFILES
You will see the whole backup.pst.
If you want to backup only the contacts and calendar, please use the
Import/export function and dont select the whole personal folder file,
select the contact to export and select the calendar to export. After that
you have a seperat "contact.pst" and a "calendar.pst"

Create a new PST (File>New>Outlook Data FIle) and copy the Contacts and
Calendar folders to it. Close the PST and Outlook. Copy that PST to your
offsite storage.
