I have had to wipe my drive and start again due to a couple of gliches.
Before I did, I backed up all my files to the other drive I have. Now, I
don't have any way of accessing all the old emails that were in my outlook
account when I did the backup. Previously with Outlook Express I was able to
do this very thing. Any advice appreciated.

I have Windows XP installed on the current working drive with Office 2003
including Outlook as my default.

What files and folders did you back up? And how did you back them up?

Most likely, your PST file was in c:\documents &
settings\yourname\application data\microsoft\outlook\. This is a
hidden/system folder so you will need to include "search hidden/system
folders" in your search for *.pst. - and/or take ownership of the backed up
folder if you are & were using NTFS and can't open it now.
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=308421 may help you with that.

Note - I always recommend:

1) Redirect My Documents to a non-profile folder, such as c:\data,
d:\myname, something. You can do this by right-clicking on the My Documents
item on your desktop, going to properties, change target....
2) Create a subfolder in that new folder called outlook
3) Find any & all PST files and with Outlook closed, move them to the
outlook subfolder you created
4) Rename the relevant PST file(s) myname.pst or something obvious
5) Open Outlook, and when it complains it can't find the file, browse to
c:\data\outlook\myname.pst or wherever you put it
6) Close & re-open Outlook; it should have the right file.

This ensures that you know where all your files are & all you really need to
worry about in a disaster, or for regular backups is c:\data.

You can also move OE store folders to c:\data\outlookexpress or somesuch -
