how do I retrieve information from a damaged file

Is there any way to retrieve information from a damaged file that excell will
not open? The file was sent to the Disabled Items list.

This could apply to the Office 2007 Beta in Excel, Office Button>Excel
Options>Add Ins>Manage...>Disabled items>Go...
