How do I retrieve a deleted file?

While working on a document in Word I somehow accidentally deleted the file.
Is there any way I can retrieve it? I went to the recycle bin but could not
find it there.

Have you backed up your data to another media? CD, floppy,
USB flash memory? If so, you would be able to retrieve the
file.
 
You deleted the file on screen? Undo (CTRL+Z) would have restored it until
you closed the document.
Was the document saved? If not then it has gone.
If you saved the text then you *may* be able to recover the saved deleted
document with file recovery software.

You should be able to Restore from your Recycle Bin.
