How do I restore the Default settings?

I can no longer use the "Insert Auto Text" option in Headers or Footers. I
have tried re-installing Office 2000 but nothing seems to work.

Close Word. Rename normal.dot to normal_old.dot. Restart Word. You should be
back to all default settings (but for the moment you've lost all your
autotext and styles, etc). If OK so far, the problem was some kind of
corruption in normal.dot -- this is usually the case, anyway. Now use the
Organizer to retrieve your autotext, styles, etc from normal_old.dot

This is a result of there being no longer any autotext entries assigned to
the paragraph style you currently have as header/footer. This could be
because you have changed the paragraph style or deleted the autotexts. Did
you, for example, save a document as normal.dot? You can still apply any
autotext entries from the insert > autotext main menu entry, or as Jezebel
has suggested you could return to the default normal.dot template which will
reset the autotexts and header style.

This usually results from a misguided attempt to replace Normal.dot with
your own version. "Only God can make a tree," and only Word can make
Normal.dot. See “WD2002: Styles and AutoText Are Not Copied to New Template
Based on Normal.dot†at http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=291441 and
