How do I restore a "removed" attachment?

I've just "removed" an attachment from an e-mail message (as the "remove"
shortcut menu item is helpfully located right next to the semantically
similar "save" item - with no confirmation on remove - excellent). Can
anyone tell me how/if I can restore it?

At the very least, is it possible to disable this "remove" option?

Once it's gone from the message store, it can't be recovered.
