Several people have been having problem with SP2 when they right click on a
folder and select properties. In a post entitles "Service Pack 2" by CAT on
9/24/04. John Butler suggested resetting the permissions for your user
names. I'd love to try it but I don't know how to do it. I appreciate if
someone can tell me how. Thanks.

If you are using XP Pro. open MMC and add "Security Configuration and
Analysis snap-in" Look at thie Microsoft websit about this snap-in. Make
sure to save your current Security Configuration first so you can reverse
any thing that may go wrong. I did that before SP2 install so I could
restore it after. So SP2 was no problem for me. Anyone else reading this
that hasn't installed SP2 and is using XP pro should consider this before
installing.

Tom,

Using Windows XP Pro and assuming the user name you want to enable is part
of the Administrators Group,:

1 Open control panel\Folder Options\View Tab, then scroll down to bottom and
UNCHECK "enable simple file sharing" if it is checked. Click "Apply" and
close Control Panel.
2 In My Computer open the system drive (usually C:\) \Documents and
Settings\ User Name, where the latter is user whose properties you want to
change. Right click to open the properties, then select the properties tab
and select the Security tab. Then follow the dialog changing which asks if
you want to change the user permissions saying "yes" as appropriate.
When you have enabled all the permissions for the name and applied the
changes close the properties and return to Control panel to check enable
Simple File Sharing, click Apply and close Control panel and you should then
be OK

Hope this helps

Jon
