How do I repair a home XP system???

I have a computer that gets the following error message
every time I boot it. I even get this message in SAFE
MODE and will not boot from last know good boot.
"
Windows could not startbecause the following file is
missing or corrupt:
\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM

you can attempt to repair this file by starting windows
setup using the orginal setup CD-ROM,
select 'r' at the first screen to start repair.
"

OK I start the system on the orginal CR-ROM and I press
the "r" key and it goes to the C:\WINDOWS prompt.

HOW DO I REPAIR THIS FILE FROM HERE???????????????????
