I am sorting out some games for a friend on his Vista laptop. One game gets
a white flickering on the screen where the sidebar would be. I can close
the sidebar and the problem goes away. However, having done that, the only
way I can find to restart the sidebar is to go into the help screens and
navigate to the pages for the sidebar and click on the bit that says click
here to restart sidebar. Surely there must be an easier way to turn it
back on? Can anyone advise please?

Go to Start and type 'sidebar' in the searchfield. ;-)

Hi Keith,

Yes there is, Mamamegs way. Also, check in *Start Menu > All Programs*
for a shorcut, if there is not one then make a shortcut for Sidebar and
place any where you like to open it up again.

File locations:
1.(32 bit version) C:\program files(x86)\sidebar.exe
2.(64 bit version) C:\program files\sidebar.exe

Also, Windows Sidebar properties (in Control Panel) has a option to
check to start Sidebar when Vista starts. Of course, you must restart
for this to start it.

You put me on the right track when you suggested Start>All Progs. I found
it under Accessories and copied the shortcut to the desktop. Many thanks
for the pointer.

Hi, Keith.

In addition to the other suggestions...

Before stopping the Sidebar, check its Properties. Mine is set to "Start
Sidebar when Windows starts", but the "always on top" box is UNchecked.
Whenever a program that needs that part of the screen starts, Sidebar
automatically disappears. But it leaves a small, easily-overlooked icon in
the Notification Area (which many of us still call the System Tray or
SysTray), down by the clock. A click on this icon brings the Sidebar back.

There is an icon in my system tray to restart sidebar. Have you checked
there?
