'End' message has appeared without my intention or knowledge, and prevents me
from adding further items to a spredsheet. How can I get rid of it?

David,

Where precisely has this End message appeared?
When you say you can't add 'items' to a spreadsheet what items are you
prevented from adding?

Tried to enter new cheque in cash account. Entered description and amount,
but would not accept ID, cheque number, or entry in analysis columns. Cursor
jumps up about 20 lines and 'end' appears at bottom right corner. Can't find
it in my handbook.

....

Press the [End] key to toggle END in the status bar when in Ready,
Enter or Point modes.

Thanks for trying. What I hadn't noticed was that the children had turned
off the number lock and the first digit I pressed was 1. !!!
