How do I remove permission restrictions from Word 2003 documents?

As a home user of Word 2003 I've been having problems trying to either save
my Word documents under a new name or save it to disk. I keep coming up with
the message that the documents are restricted and I must receive permission
to make changes. How do I remove permission restrictions from my documents?

This sounds as if you have some Addin or other third-party software interfering
with how Word works. Could be a file or desktop management or anti-virus tool.
Basic troubleshooting is to start Word, and then Windows, in Safe Mode to
determine in which environment the problem is originating. From there, you start
tracking down what might be involved.
