How do I remove myself from a network

I bought this pc from circuit city and I just found out that I am on a
network and I do not want to be on a network . How do I remove myself from
the network . I do not like the idea of people being able to access my
desktop ,ect and also if anyone can give me more info about this I would
appreciate it.

Donna,

The best way to disconnect from the network is to remove the Ethernet cable from
the back of the computer.

The next best thing is to un install File and Printer Sharing For Microsoft
Networks.

If you want to protect yourself, and still access the internet, install or
enable a software firewall. The Windows Firewall, on XP SP2, will protect you
adequately.
