How do I recover lost messages in my 'Sent Items' folder?

I am using Outlook 2003. All of the messages in my 'Sent Items' folder
mysteriously disappeared yesterday. When I send new messages today, they
apprear in 'Sent Items' as usual, however, everything prior to yesterday is
gone. The messages have not been archived, I am certain that I did not delete
them, and I have run the scanpst.exe repair tool to see if my .pst somehow
got corrupt. Scanpst.exe did not yield any positive results. Any thoughts on
what this problem might be?

ANy custom views on the folder, such as today's mail? If you right click on
the folder and select properties, then folder size, does it correctly report
the number of items in the box?
