How do I prevent helper object silent installation

Some helper objects silently install themselves when i'm browsing. The most
recent occurrence was the installation of shopnav on my browser.

This evil scumware hijacks all my searches.

How can I prevent BHO silent installation?

Install a firewall. ZoneAlarm is free. I used the free version and now have
the paid one.
Nothing will come it unless you let ok it.
