I have information in several cells that need further explanation. I want to
footnote the data in these cells so that the reader of the Excel spreadsheet
can be directed to the footnote at the bottom of the sheet. Please tell me
how to footnote the data in the cell.
Thank you

There are no footnotes for excel, you use a hyperlink to some info at the
bottom and a comment to indicate where to click that hyperlink in a cell

Excel has no footnote feature.

Cell comments are the next best thing.

In the comment you could direct the reader to some manually entered notes you
placed at bottom of sheet.

Just as easy to enter the notes in the comment IMO.

Well, strictly speaking, I don't think they'd be called footnotes. However,
you can add comments to cells and choose how you display and/or print them.

Having added a comment to a cell, hovering over it with the mouse will
display it ... or you can choose in Tools | Options | View tab | Comment &
indicator to show it all the time.

Use Page Setup | Sheet | Comments: at end of sheet to print them at the
end of the sheet, like a footnote ;-)
