When I click "file > open" in Word, the files are listed is non-alphabetical
order. How do I change the order. Thanks.

Click the Views button in the Open dialog box toolbar (just to the left of
'Tools'), and select Details View. Then click the caption for the 'Name'
column. You may need to click it twice if you get a descending sort the first
time. Once the files are sorted you can swithch to any other view you prefer.

You can also make similar specifications through a Windows Explorer window.

If you're not already in Details view, switch to that view, then click on
the Name column heading.

Thank you. I also figured out that you can "right click" on a blank space in
the window, and select "arrange icons by > name".

I'm using my dad's computer, and trying to help him send an email with an
attachment. It's so frustrating because his home computer is set up
differently that how I've set up my computer at work (I've tried to simplify,
simplify, simplify....). My dad is 80 years old, and it's amazing all the
stuff he's figured out, but he pretty much uses what is thrown at him (he's
using MSN hotmail, and all the pop up ads drive me bonkers - somehow he gets
through it all).

Thanks, Erik. It worked for me!!!!

Ms. Barnhill:

Somehow my folders got out of order in Word "Open". I have been trying to
figure out how to undo whatever I did for 3 weeks. Thank goodness I found
your post. Life is good again:)

Occasionally changing the display order in Windows Explorer (My Computer)
will filter down to Explorer windows (Open, Save As) in Word as well. Glad
you got it sorted!
