Hi

How do we open up an MS Access ".mdb" file (from Office 2000 format I
think),
WITHOUT the macros running?!

Our MS Access guy is on holiday for 2 weeks.

Most of the office is on Office 2003 but for historical reason I
believe
that the data is still in Office 2000 format. Running on Office2000
(all
last ms patches for everything)

I tried holding down the CTRL key and double clicking on the .mdb file.
I also tried doing the same thing with the shift key. But nothing seems
to stop the macros from running. Whereas we need to get at the
underlying
data to produce some new reports...!

- Any suggestions?

With thanks

P.S.
When it opens it is giving a warning message:
"SECURITY WARNING"
"This file may not be safe if it contains code that is intended to harm
your computer.
Do you want to open this file or cancel the operation?"

Apparently it always has given this stupid message...

Try this: single-click the mdb file, then press & hold Shift, then
double-left-click, and keep Shift down until the database opens. But
this won't work if he has "disallowed the Shift key bypass".

You don't need to open the database to get at the data within it.
Instead, you can just create a /new/ database, then link to the tables
in the other one. With this method you can get at the data, but
naturally you will not have access to the forms & reports in the other
database. But you could create new ones in the new database.

Thanks that seems to work

Bizarre! I thought I was doing EXACTLY that, but maybe I hadnt
single clicked it first...

Either way thanks!

the whole idea behind the "single click" first is basically to select
your mdb file before opening it with Shift down.

if you dont single click first, you could easily find yourself opening
most every file in the directory.. something i have done more than
once ;)
