When I receive an email containing an attachment (usually a microsoft word
document), and attempt to open it, it opens in Microsoft Office Picture
Manager - which of course is just a picture of the document icon. Can you
help me to fix this? Thanks, Fred

What version of Outlook? If you save the attachment to the hard drive, does
it open in word?

fh, thanks for your reply.

My MS Outlook is a 2003 version. Re your second question, the answer is
yes, it will open as a picture of the icon in MS Picture Manager - unless it
left click, click on "open with" and click on MS Word.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

So that suggests that if you double-click on a Word document on your PC
(even one that did not come as an e-mail attachment) it will, by default,
open in Office Picture Manager. Is that correct? If that is correct, then
you need to modify the file association of the ".doc" extension. It is
probably asociated with Office Picture Manager...just change it to Word.

Next time you right-click on a Word document (you said left click below but
I think you meant right-click) and you choose "Open with" look for a little
check box that says something like "always use this application to open
these files" (I know I don't have the exact wording correct, but the general
idea is there). If there is not a check mark in that box, put one there.
That should fix the problem.
