How do I make members in an imported Distribution list into Contac

I am using Outlook 2003. I was sent a distribution list via email. I click
and dragged the file into my contacts. However, I have been able to edit any
of the names/addresses in the list. When I select them they say they can't
be found. I assume this is because they were not typed in by me as Contacts.
I am not on a server, just a stand alone computer. Thanks in advance for
your help!
