How do I make Excel open in less than a full sized window

I need to see other things on my desktop. When I open Excel, it is always
full sized and there is no resize icon in the corner to make it smaller. How
do I adjust he application window size?
 
you can double click on the big blue bar across the top or right click over
the icon in your taskbar and select restore.
