How do I make custom bullets that look smooth on a variegated background?

I have made some custom bullets in Photoshop CS with drop shadows. I
save them as gifs with transparency, and to do so requires that I pick
the color of the background I intend the bullets to be layed over. I
can do this when the background is a single color, but what do I do
when the background image is not a solid color? The bullets I'm making
look jagged when they are layed over some of the lighter portions of my
powerpoint background.

thx!

Hi Gary,

export the bullets from Photoshop as PNG files. GIFs only have one
transparent color, PNG file format supports real alpha channel transparency,
so that your background shines through the semi-transparent areas.

Kind regards,
Ute
