how do I lock a file so it can't be deleted?

want to fix it so it can not be deleted don't mind if it is opened or read
anything as long as it is not deleted
 
save the files in one folder e.g james and then write click on that folder
james and go to security and restict means read write or not

thanks I tried that but it does not stop the folder from being deleted only
altered? go figure. I'll check out the other site.

Assuming you're using XP Pro: right-click the file, select
"Properties". Click the "Security" tab. Click the "Advanced" button at
the bottom of the box. Click the "Edit" button at the bottom of that
box. Now you've got a list of permissions that you can allow or deny.
One of those permissions is "Delete".
