I there a way to lock a CD ROM drive so that it cannot open? I would rather
not open up the box and pull the power cord from the drive.

There is when you have a computer used by many different people and you want
to be the only one able to use the CD drive. Is the reason really important?

I tried that program and it is not going to work, is there any way in 2000
or XP to lock a drive using the windows software?

Could you disable the CD ROM through the BIOS and use a password to access the BIOS?

is there any point in having a drive you cannot use?

There would be if you had little grandkids poking their fingers into
everything and you wanted to disable the CD's open button!!

Then unlock it when grandkids have left!!!

USE ADULT SUPERVISION. Tell them to stay off the computer and if they don't,

I take it you have no kids in your life - they need exposure to
computers as a learning experinece!!

I have several, and they are all computer users. VERY well supervised!
Katie, your attitude is 1 of the reasons this world is in such a sorry
state.
When Children lack ADULT supervision and a firm hand it does create
criminals, welfare hobos, and general population scum! When a firm hand is
not used, kids end up just like you, poor attitude towards authority.

Gee your pathetic - "paddle their bottoms"??
What century are you living in???

Does it matter? In any century the "board of
education" is very important. The Bible
says "spare the rod and spoil the child" to
paraphrase.

Who said anything about lack of supervision?!?!?!

You said "paddle their bottoms" which is physical violence and belongs
in past centuries. Discipline YES and plenty of it - but not PHYSICAL.

And another reason for violence in the world is that kids at the
receiving end of violence from parents are more likely to indulge in
violence themselves than those who are not treated to physical violence
as so called discipline.

Get real!!!!

I see from Katie's latest that she thinks you meant "paddle their
bottoms" literally! But no one does that these days, do they? You did
mean it figuratively, didn't you?!?!
