How do I link an image without embedding it in an email?

I see plenty of emails that have images that are linked but not embedded. How
does one do this? I know programs like Dreamweaver can help accomplish this
but as of yet, I have been unable to use one to help me do what I want to do.

Insert-> Picture and then type the URL of the image as the location.

And keep in mind that linked images won't show up in the message for many,
if not most people, because Outlook and other mail programs don't download
external images by default.
