Hi

I just installed win xp pro using the ntfs option. i just created two account (type: limited). But now i wonder how do i ensure that these two accounts do not have axccss to C:\ drive or any system folders. I would also like for these two accounts to just be able to axcss the desktop and the shared documents folders. Any help would be much appreciated. btw, i am a parent with no networking knowledge :

much thanks in advance

Very good question and a noble goal to be sure. However
you may be trying to take this a bit too far. Without
going in to all the lengthy details about NFTS permisions,
because it can take hours, suffice it to say that if you
restrict them from any access to the C: partition or any
system folders then they will not be able to use the
computer. However, XP does come with a decent set of built
in permissions which generally restricts their access
sufficiantly to the system files, and does not let them
view other users files, only their own.

Well as long as you set them up as limited user accounts
they will only have access to modify their own files, and
access to the shared documents folder. Make sure that you
hit CTRL-ALT-Delete (You may have to do it twice) at the
login screen ( A Box Login screen should pop up) and type
in ADMINISTRATOR for the login and password will be
<blank> and go into the users screen and set a password to
the Administrators account, so the kiddies can't sneak
around your little security setup using that
administrators account. It also comes in handy if you need
to get into the system with administrators access.
