How do I keep 's from becoming =s when I bring up a form?

After creating and saving a form in WORD 2000, all 's change to =s. Same
with any other ' . How do I change this so I get the right format>

Can't say I've ever seen anything like this. Are you saving as a Word
document? Which font are you using? With what language has the document been
formatted?
