How do i insert a macron in Word ie put a line above "a" in Maori

You don't insert a macron over the letter; you use the character that has a
macron over it. In Unicode fonts, this is glyph 0101. See

If this is something you will have to do frequently you might want to set it
up in AutoCorrect. Then whenever you type the word "Maori" and press the
space bar (or Enter) Word will automatically change it to your preferred
rendering, with the macron.
