How do I insert a comment in a footnote?

I want to insert a comment into the text of a footnote? Is this possible in
Word? The Insert > Comment field is greyed out when my cursor is in the
footnote text.
 
No. It's not possible. Instead, you might try turning on revision marking so
that you "comment" stands out from other text.
