How do I highlight text in Outlook windows XP

I am new to using Outlook in Windows XP. Does anyone know how to highlight
text?
I have used different version of Outlook and normally do not have issues
with highlighting text but for some reason it does not seem to be an option.
Any suggestions on what I might be doing wrong? Thanks for you help.
 
Make sure you have selected Word as the e-mail editor.
