How do i get xp to close down the power

Hi
When i turn off the computer i get a message "it is now
safe to turn off the power". Hence, I have to turn it off
manually. Must be a way to have the machine turn off the
power for me.

Either your computer is too old to shut down
automatically, or you need to install windows updates.

Start - Control Panel - Performance and Maintenance - Power Options -
APM - Enable Advanced Power Management Support
