How do I get the last documents listed when launching WORD?

Under Options, General, Receently used file list, it is not highlited so I
can enter a number and therefore, see recent documents when I launch Word.
This problem is also with Excel.
I removed Tweak UI but this doesn't do the trick. Something is hidden
somewhere especially since I was able to use this feature a month or so ago.
 
Removing TweakUI presumably wouldn't change any Registry entries it had
edited. You should have used TweakUI to restore the Start Menu MRU list.
