How do I get rid of the Drawing Canvas?

I'm using Word 2002, I've unchecked the box under Tools>Options>General>
'Automatically create Drawing Canvas for autoshapes'......works fine
for autoshapes, the Drawing Canvas is thankfully gone (it drove me
nuts!)

On attempting to insert a chart....guess what...back it comes!!
Presumably there must be another way of getting rid of it so that it
will never come back:)

I would be very grateful if someone could tell me how to get rid of it
completely as it's really irritating

Thanks a lot!

Hi, banjo,

I hear you screaming <g> but I can't make my copy of Word 2002 do the
same thing.

Just to check: You're inserting a chart by clicking the Chart button
on the toolbar, or using Insert > Picture > Chart, or using Insert >
Object > Create New tab > Microsoft Graph Chart?

In any of those cases, I see a sample chart inside a dashed rectangle
(this is the standard object rectangle, like a text box, not the
drawing canvas) plus an Excel-like datasheet. If I click anywhere
outside these items, only the chart remains.

I'm glad he did... I had the same question and was poised to
ask it.
