How do I get MS Outlook back "online"? It suddenly is "offline".

I have been using MS Outlook for years and suddenly, with no notable related
computer problems, the program (Outlook) went offline. I cannot receive or
view any current emails.

Can someone ouline the steps i should take in order to bring Outlook back
"online"?

Is "Work Offline" actually checked in the File menu, or is it just that
you're not able to send and receive?
