How do I get microsoft outlook 2003 to work with AOL?

I have tried over and over again following the directions exactly. But I
always get an error message whenever I try to send mail that outlook is
unable to connect to the server. I have spoken with AOL about this and they
gave me the same instructions as the ones that I have followed. What do I do
next to make this work.
 
Contact AOL - it is not an Outlook issue. Interoperability with AOL is
entirely dependent on their instructions.

Double check that you're using port 587 on smtp.aol.com with your AOL email
address and login information.
