Thanks, Ramesh! It was selected but not working in IE, deselecting and
reselecting did re-enable it in IE. So that's fixed. I wasn't using Classic
start menu before and when I changed to it I could find that "Use
Personalized Menus" option, but it still doesn't work and I've gone back to
XP style Start menu and it's still not working there either (which it used
to do). I swear I once saw that option for the normal XP Start menu, but I
can't find it ...
I connected up a 230 Gig Maxtor for a virus check and its overlay made my
XP-Pro BSOD, messed up NTFS so bad it couldn't get into SM and I had to use
RC to restore the hives I had manually backed up just the day before via RC.
But found firewall had to be reinstalled (file wpsdrvnt.sys got hurt) so I
suspect more file damage somewhere although this is the only thing I see
acting weird on the system right now. Nothing in EM, though, and all seems
error free there (and I monitor all failures in EM). I don't think it's
registry, since I restored all hives from when all was working fine. <sigh>
And now I just looked at a Dell laptop on the bench, darn thing on its own
changed its background (without rebooting) just a few minutes ago! Ominous.
Hi WinGuy,
Enable these options.
"Enable Personalized Favorites Menu" in Internet Options, Advanced tab
-and/or-
"Use Personalized Menus" check box in Taskbar and Start Menu properties

I did something that changed how I view menues. When I select Start|Programs
or I select Favorites in IE, I used to get only the most recently used
entries, with a "Where did all my ... go" message or the further expansion
of the menu tree if I hovered too long. Now I just get all the entries
listed immediately, instead of just the most recent used ones for the
menues. I can't seem to find the configuration setting for this. Any ideas,
anyone?
